BEIJING - Last month as Spring Festival approached, State-owned Beijing Tourism Group celebrated its success with General Manager Liu Yi noting company revenues totaled 34.7 billion yuan ($5.5 billion) last year, up 9.5 percent from 2010.
During festivities at the Beijing International Hotel, Liu said in the keynote address that BTG's total assets have risen from 8.3 billion yuan in 1998 to 35 billion yuan in 2011, an average increase of 11.68 percent a year.
Its combined profit of 1.35 billion yuan last year met the target set by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Beijing, he added.
In addition to its main tour business, BTG operations over the past decade have grown to include hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, auto leasing and services, scenic sites and real estate.
The group has four listed companies and several well-known subsidiaries including Beijing Capital Tourism Co Ltd, restaurant chain Quanjude Group, budget hotel brand Home Inns and the recently merged Xidan Department Store and New Yansha Group shopping mall operations.
BTG has mapped out a blueprint for the 12th Five-year Plan (2011-2015) period to promote development of its hospitality operations, said Liu.
He said the group will make its hotel operations more efficient and form a central reservation system for domestic and foreign tourists that can be served by its 100 travel agencies around the country.
He added that BTG will use the advantages of its time-honored brands, dozens of direct-sale stores and hundreds of franchise stores to further promote its Quanjude, Donglaishun, Fangshan and Fengzeyuan restaurants.
To boost tourism shopping, the group plans greater integration of resources to create a high-end retail mall operation meeting international standards.
Liu said BTC will also improve services in its auto leasing operations by putting about 10,000 rental vehicles into operation while enhancing services in sales, repair and fuel supplies.
Its scenic site and real estate division will focus on developing more destinations and improving urban complexes such as Beijing Hotel Central Plaza, Yanxiang NUO Tan'gemei Plaza, Great Wall Landmark Plaza, Guiyou Jianguo Jinglun Plaza, Xiyuan New Century Plaza, and Beijing International Hotel.
The group also plans to accelerate development of the "BTG Hainan Second Industrial Cluster" centered around the Sanya Nanshan scenic site in the southern island province.
"China will develop into a great power in tourism, so it needs a world-class tourism enterprise," Liu said.
"I hope friends from all circles show their interest in BTG."
