Topic: Movie panda-monium
Zhao Bandi, an outspoken performance artist, has called on Chinese audiences to boycott the Hollywood hit Kung Fu Panda 2, dubbing it a cultural invasion. He has even urged movie theaters nationwide not to screen it.
After watching Kung Fu Panda 2, I think the director has a thorough understanding of Chinese culture. There are a lot of Chinese stars and staff with Chinese origins who contributed to the movie. So I can't take Zhao's argument very seriously.

It's nothing but a movie, right? Don't be too serious or cynical, OK? I think the artist only wants to make something sensational and get himself in the media. That's all.

Can we just try and have a little bit more confidence about ourselves and our culture?

I don't object to the artist who called for the boycott and I don't disagree with those who demand a boycott of Zhao. I just object to being told what to accept or boycott.

Topic: Airport smoking ban
Beijing Capital International Airport has closed all 36 smoking rooms across its three terminals, implementing the country's first airport smoking ban. Passengers can now only smoke in nine designated areas outside terminals.
There is a potential problem. Many passengers will go to security checks after they smoke enough outside. That will make the security checks very crowded and time-consuming. I suggest the airport adds more security check channels after carrying out its smoking ban.

I'm not a smoker and have never smoked. Still, I think the airport should leave passengers an area for smoking. After all, smoking doesn't do a lot of harm to other people.

Smoking is a personal right. If you close the door, you have to open a window. This is justice. Smoking is unhealthy, but as long as it doesn't affect other people it is a matter of personal choice.

I'm so lucky to have quit smoking. Although I was once a smoker, I strongly support the smoking ban.

Topic: Divided scroll reunited
A restored 660-year-old scroll Dwelling in Fuchun Mountain went on display at the Taipei Palace Museum on Wednesday. The two parts of the painting will be shown side by side for the first time in 360 years.
I'm itching to get a look at it. The masterpiece is one of the most important classical Chinese paintings. I learned that the scroll painting was torn in two during a fire in 1650. The right part is usually kept in the mainland's Zhejiang Museum, while the left part is at Taipei's Palace Museum. This is a treasure and legacy of Chinese culture. - "NIANGUOLUSHU" ON 163; FOLLOWERS: 53
I'm happy that the painting has finally been reunited. The Chinese people across the Straits cheer for that. I hope the joint exhibition will herald a series of cultural exchanges across the Straits. Exchanges promote mutual understanding.

The exhibition signifies not only the reunion of its two pieces but also the further communication across the Straits. More communication of the kind should be encouraged.
