Beijing bikers are set to face their biggest challenge yet as the Bohai or Bust charity event rolls into the capital.
The second annual Bohai or Bust cycling event on April 3, which is organized by cycling initiative Smarter Than Cars in association with the Schoolhouse at Mutianyu and The Hutong community center, gives philanthropic pedalers the chance to bask in the capital's spring weather while helping the senior citizens of the Mutianyu area.
"During springtime, people just want to get out of hibernation, and this is a great way to do it," said Morgan O'Hara, marketing director at The Hutong, which hosted the event's launch party on Saturday.
With four different routes, ranging from a quick and breezy 10 kilometers to a more arduous 100 km, the event should offer something suitable for everyone. The rides in the Mutianyu area will be followed up with a raffle, homemade dumplings and a performance by the rock band The Badhats.
"It doesn't matter if you're a biking enthusiast or just want to get out and see more of Beijing," said O'Hara.
The cost to join the event is 200 yuan for adults, which includes transport from Beijing to Mutianyu, and 150 yuan for children under 13. All proceeds go toward projects helping elderly people in Mutianyu.
