A 26-year-old woman working in Beijing finally arrived home in Sichuan province after a 17 days’ journey riding a bike, Beijing Times reported Wednesday.
The straight distance between Beijing and the Southwest China province is about 2100 kilometers.

Youngest tax payer
A five-year-old boy who made the news for rolling in the freezing snow only in his underwear paid 4,720 yuan ($780) in taxes for his 2013 earnings, becoming the youngest taxpayer in China.
The boy, He Yide, paid taxes to a Nanjing tax buruea on Wednesday for money he earned from appearance fee, selling newspapers and
revenue from opening online shops.
He made a 35-minute flight by ultralight aircraft across Beijing Wildlife Park on Aug 31, 2013.

Honest Guilin people
None of the thousands of red envelops with gift money in them put on public trees was taken in Guilin, news.163.com reported Wednesday.
A company from Guilin, capital of South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region puts hongbao on trees for residents during each Spring Festival, with 10 yuan at most to one yuan at least, but residents never took them.

Old song gala
CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala program list was published through its official Sina Weibo yesterday, which has triggered heated debate as people assume that there are many more shows singing old songs than cross talks and short sketches.
Songs account for 23 of the 42 programs, while there are only five language shows. This turned the gala into a concert of old songs. Facing such a program list, many people feel disappointed at the chief director' taste.

Study on Japanese aggression urged
China supports the Republic of Korea’s decision to push for a joint international study on Japan’s aggressive past, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Jan 29.
The ROK plan is for a joint study with China and Southeast Asian nations that suffered Japanese invasion during World War II. The proposal is in response to frequent provocations from Japan. “We are willing to keep in touch with all victimized countries in Asia, to safeguard historical justice and the conscience of mankind,” Hua said.

Mistress publishes official’s photos
Authorities in Zhaoqing’s Duanzhou district have launched a probe after a woman claiming to be an official’s mistress published nude photos of him online and alleged he embezzled public funds and is involved in gambling, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
The results of the investigation into Du Weijun, director of the Duanzhou district Bureau of Culture, will be made public, the authorities said. The nude photos have been forwarded to the Guangdong provincial Department of Public Security for further identification.

Daughter seeks understanding
The lesbian daughter of Hong Kong tycoon Cecil Chao, who offered a bounty worth millions of dollars to any man who could woo her into marriage, appealed to her father in an open letter published on Jan 29 to accept her sexuality.
In a letter published by two Hong Kong newspapers, Gigi Chao, 34, addressed her father and said it’s “difficult for you to understand, let alone accept” how she could be romantically attracted to a woman. “My regret is that you have no idea how happy I am with my life,” the letter said.

Inmates' fashion show
Inmates and police officers held a Spring Festival gala at the women's prison in northeast China's Jilin province on Tuesday evening, to celebrate the coming Spring Festival, East Asia Economy and Trade News reported.
A fashion show drew much attention and won the most applause in the gala. The show featured clothes designed by inmates and police officers at the prison. Nine police officers and 83 inmates designed and made 149 outfits of professional quality.
The prison, which trains inmates in apparel design and clothes-making skills to prepare them for their future lives, also runs regular design competitions.
