Nanjing

Being the capital of six dynasties, Nanjing has both benefited and suffered from its particularly favourable geological location in history. It witnessed hundreds of battles and wars but always recovered. Together with its historic relics such as the Confucious Temple and the Qinhuai River, it is also the second largest city in the Yangtze River delta and one of China's most important cultural, millitary and financial cities.

Nanjing is stoking the Olympic spirit of local youth with a series of promotional activities in the run-up to the Nanjing Youth Olympics, which will be held in August this year.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, former Italian prime minister Prodi Mano have been to Nanjing. Former Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama visited the memorial site to victims of the Nanjing Massacre and the coming Danish Queen Margaret II will also pay a visit the Nanjing Massacre memorial site during her visit to China later this month.
