LAGOS -- At least 65 people died in three road accidents on Monday in Nigeria, the country's Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has announced.
Fifty-five people were feared dead early Monday in two separate car crashes in the country's northeast Yobe state, while 10 travelers lost their lives in an incident in southwest Oyo state.
Road officials attributed the accidents to speeding and dangerous driving.
Traffic accidents are common in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country, owing to poorly maintained roads and a common disregard for traffic laws. More than 1,000 are killed on the road each year in the country.
