A police officer in Linzhou, Henan province, was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday for causing intentional injury, China Central Television reported.
Guo Zengxi, 50, threw a 7-month-old baby girl to the ground on July 18, causing injuries to the child's head, and he was arrested for intentional assault on Aug 22, the report said.
Guo was dismissed from the Linzhou's public security bureau and expelled from the Communist Party of China after the assault, the report said.
The defendant said during the trial that he would not appeal to a higher court, the report said.
Guo's lawyers said Guo committed the crime after drinking alcohol and did not mean to harm the girl, adding their client paid compensation to the victim's family before the trial, the report added.
