Traditional arts and crafts are selling out in Tianjin’s Binhai New Area with the traditional Chinese New Year just around the corner, reported the Bohai Morning Post.

In the northern port city, delicate hand-made crafts, including porcelain, glass and jade were on hot sale.

On the 6th floor of one mall on Jiefang Road, colorful products for the New Year celebrations --- couplets and lanterns --- were joined by a palace-lantern-shaped gift with drawings of magpies, old men and children on different sides.

Red and gold headdress flowers gave full expression to local craftsmanship. There are mini models of gourds, goldfishes, or flames on each of them, meaning wealth, honor, good luck, beauty and health.

The headdress flowers, with different sizes and designs, cost 10 yuan ($1.5), 15 yuan ($2.3) or 20 yuan ($3). Women usually wear them on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Vivid glass products, such as copies of bottles from the Warring States Period (475-221BC) and an imitation of the unique Bronze Four Sheep Square Statue, were also on display.

In one store, jade tea-boards were quite popular with customers. They cost from 1,200 yuan ($182) to 22,00 yuan ($334) because of different jades, including white jade from Iran and sapphire from Afghanistan. Small jade widgets of around 100 yuan ($15) sold best, said a salesperson in the store.
