The Low Carbon Living Lab (LCLL) in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City received the Green Mark Platinum Award by Singapore's Building Construction Authority (BCA) on May 15.

Khaw Boon Wan, Singapore's Minister for National Development attended the ceremony. The award was presented by BCA Chairman Quek See Tiat to the eco-city's CEO He Dongyan at the BCA Awards 2015 ceremony.

The LCLL is a project developed with support from BCA, International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore) and the Eco-City's Administrative Committee (ECAC). Designed to be a "Living Lab", the LCLL encourages testing and demonstration of green building features, energy saving and renewable energy.

Since the start of its operation in 2014, the LCLL has used 28 percent renewable energy, uses 30 percent less energy than similar buildings and uses 30 percent recycled materials in construction.

The Green Mark Scheme was launched by BCA in 2005 to promote environmental awareness in construction and real estate. In September 2013, the LCLL received the pre-certification of BCA Green Mark Platinum Award. Following one year of data tracking and monitoring, the LCLL has met the required Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and obtained full certification.

The LCLL has also received the China Green Building Design Label 3-Star Award and met the Eco-City's Green Building Evaluation Standard (GBES), developed by experts from Singapore and China.

He said, "We are very happy that the LCLL has received the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award. The LCLL is the first BCA Green Mark Platinum building in a temperate zone and in China. The LCLL was developed in collaboration with several Singaporean companies, including Jurong Consultants Pte Ltd, which provided the green building design, and ST Electronics (Tianjin) which provided the Building and Energy Management systems. The development of the LCLL reflects the eco city's efforts to adopt green technologies and environmental design. We believe that through sustainable design and construction, we can conserve resources and reduce the impact of the built environment on human health and our surroundings."
