The eighth East Asian Squash Championship ended on July 14. In addition to receiving the men's first gold medal, Hong Kong won the women's champion team section ahead of China and Korea. Korea and Japan ranked second and third in the men's team. The Chinese men's team took fourth place.

The eighth East Asian Squash Championship is considered a test match for the sixth East Asian Games. In addition, the organization committee expanded the program to 24 categories, including soft tennis, dragon boat racing, karate and squash, in order to enhance the event's popularity.
