Gansu signed 6.1b yuan-worth of contracts with Taiwan

On April 15, a press conference hosted by the Taiwan Affairs Office of Gansu province announced that the contracted investment of the 14 Taiwan-funded projects in Gansu totaled 6.15 billion yuan ($988.3 million) last year, of which 3.7 billion yuan will come from Taiwan companies and 700 million yuan has been invested.

In addition, seven new Taiwan enterprises registered in Gansu last year. At present, some large Taiwan-funded projects have begun construction in Tianshui, Baiyin, Jinchang and other cities in the province.

Last year, 3,668 people engaged in the 357 bilateral visits between Gansu and Taiwan. 1,614 Gansu delegates took part in the exchange programs in Taiwan, and 2,054 people from Taiwan visited Gansu. The number of people traveling between Gansu and Taiwan was more than 50,000.

With the increase of cultural exchanges between Gansu and Taiwan, Gansu is witnessing a rising amount of investment from Taiwan year on year.

According to Zhao Shaozhi, director of the provincial Taiwan Affairs Office, Gansu has set its main objectives for this year: first, the number of people travelling between Gansu and Taiwan should reach over 60,000, including 4,000 people involved in exchange visits; and second, having more than 10 Taiwan-funded enterprises registered in the province.
