As the first of its kind in the country, the base is aimed to reach an annual production volume of hundreds of billion yuan and train more than 50,000 talents in technology, marketing and management in three to five years.

So far, a VR experience center covering an area of more than 20,000 square meters, has been built at the provincial digital industry park in Changle, Fuzhou, which will open to the public soon.

Industrial experts estimate that this year China will see a boom in its VR industry, and by 2020, the assets of the VR market around the world will top 988 billion yuan ($150 billion).

Fujian is now pushing forward a series of key projects of VR application featuring city administration, education and tourism, attempting to make the base a national model for the VR industry, said Zhang Zhinan, vice governor of Fujian province, at the inauguration ceremony.

He also added that VR with a broad market prospect will play a crucial role in developing Fujian into a digital province.
