The trade value of Xiamen's e-commerce is expected to reach 350 billion yuan this year, up by 40 percent, and the number of e-commerce employees is expected to reach 150,000, according to predictions made by the Xiamen E-commerce Association.
It was the first report made by the association. The release of the report was highly valued by industry insiders.
According to incomplete estimates, the trade value of Xiamen e-commerce has reached 250 billion yuan so far this year, about 50 percent higher than this time last year.
Currently, Xiamen is home to 37,000 registered e-commerce companies, an increase of 73 percent compared with last year, with about 20,000 B2B companies and about 10,000 B2C companies. The total number of e-commerce enterprises in Xiamen is expected to reach 50,000 this year.
Xiamen's e-commerce index reached 15.854 last year, ranking sixth nationwide, following Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai, according to a report released by AliResearch.
The development of e-commerce is hampered by a lack of top talents and a logistics distribution system.
By the end of 2014, Xiamen had about 4,000 logistic enterprises, most of them small enterprises with registered capital of less than 5 million yuan.
