Liang Jianyong, deputy to the 12th National People's Congress (NPC) and secretary of the Longyan municipal Party committee, suggested that the government bring the training of new-type professional farmers to the national strategy level and release more preferential policies to support them at a press conference held during the ongoing two sessions in Beijing on March 6.

Longyan has released many policies to promote the development of the agriculture economy and guarantee the benefits of farmers, Liang said, adding that in the following period, Longyan will take advantage of technology to train large scale farmers that are adaptable to modern society.
Liang said that Longyan has acted as a traditional agricultural city and is in great need of professional farmers.
He points out that more than 200,000 students major in agriculture from colleges every year, but most of them are unable or unwilling to work at the grassroots level of agriculture. “It is advisable to take a special priority policy in the process of the recruitment of agricultural students and give them more hands-on practice.”
Professional farmers should be regarded as a respectable career by society, and
their infrastructure and living conditions should be improved, Liang added.
