BEIJING - A new type of frigate has entered into the service of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy.
A commissioning ceremony for the Quanzhou was held at a military port in Xiamen in southeastern China on Friday.
Independently designed and produced by China, the new frigate features stealth, electromagnetic compatibility and other advanced technologies.
It will be tasked with maritime patrol, surveillance, escort, anti-submarine and other naval functions.
The frigate is listed in the country's fourth generation of the "Sea Tiger". The first generation was commissioned in 1958 and granted such an honorary title in 1966 for its extraordinary feats in battle.
