To reduce the influence of low prices in the flower and tree market, Shiba village, Hesheng town, Wenjiang district, Chengdu is exploring online platforms to expand sales channels and transform the traditional flower and tree industry.

By December 2018, Shiba village had planted 5.33 hectares of tuber ferns, generating 2 million yuan ($291,055) in sales for more than 30 households. This has created a tuber fern industry within the village.

Due to the the relatively high price, high market demand and ornamental value of the tuber fern, the village government decided to encourage villagers to expand the planting area of the fern.

In order to improve their ability to transport the plants, Party members and peasant households in the village raised funds to build a new 500-meter road.

Another three country roads will be constructed in 2018, and the village plans to improve its aesthetics and continue increasing the income of villagers throughout 2019.
