Liucheng strengthens flood prevention measures

As the annual flood season looms, Liucheng, a subdistrict of Wenjiang, has taken measures to bolster flood prevention in the area to prevent disasters and ensure public safety.

Local government officials have constituted a work team to take charge of the flood control effort. Liucheng held a total of nine conferences, workshops and training sessions to assign responsibility for flood prevention across 19 communities.

The government has continued to strengthen its efforts of raising public awareness about flood precautions with online and offline training activities. It has also urged local communities, hydropower stations and property management companies to formulate flood prevention and emergency plans.

In preparation for potential disasters, Liucheng has built up reserves of relief items, including life-saving equipment and flood-fighting apparatuses. Rescue personnel are also standing by. Since 2016, Liucheng has carried out flood fighting drills involving over 3,100 people to enhance its capacity for rescue and relief work.

Given the flood threats posed by recent torrential rains, flood prevention inspections are underway and numerous pitfalls, which may give rise to hazards, have been removed.
