With the spread of the H7N9 influenza virus, supermarkets in Wenjiang have stopped slaughtering live poultry onsite and suspended any trade of live poultry.

With the non-standardized sale and slaughter of poultry, consumers are more inclined to be exposed to the H7N9 virus. As a result, the sale of frozen chicken has become a new trend.

Zhu Dali, director of the Chengxi Market, explained that the frozen chicken has all been processed in a safely quarantined environment overseen by the state supervision department, and citizens can feel safe in purchasing it.

According to Zhang Libin, deputy director of the local Center for Disease Control, to lower risks of exposure to the H7N9 virus the sale of frozen and chilled chicken will be implemented in the long run.
