Wenjiang district in the Sichuan provincial capital Chengdu signed a strategic cooperation agreement with bike-sharing start-up Ofo on March 25 to expand the area’s green transport network.
The agreement will see 12,000 of Ofo’s signature yellow bikes hit the streets of Wenjiang by May, while the Wenjiang district government is expected to make plans to create more parking areas for bikes.
According to Ofo, the tie-in with Wenjiang is the first deal the fast-growing company has signed with a municipal district. In addition to working together on bike-sharing, the two sides also plan to cooperate on establishing a slow traffic system in the area.
Located in the western suburbs of Chengdu, Wenjiang district has made big progress in developing its public transportation network in 2017.
The construction of Chengdu’s Metro Line 17 began on Feb 27 in the district. The 25.8-kilometer line is the second, after Metro Line 4, to connect Wenjiang and downtown Chengdu, providing residents with a convenient and eco-friendly way of reaching the city center.
