Natural craft festival opens in Wenjiang

The second natural craft festival opened in Shou’an county, Wenjiang district on Sep 3 to promote local floriculture.

District officials and the head of the Sichuan provincial Flower Association Liu Zhaogao attended the opening ceremony.

The event highlights a newly-opened natural craft-themed town, the first of its kind in Southwest China. The town will feature topiary works (commonly known as hedge sculptures that are made by clipping shrubs and trees) and activities of weaving twigs and flowers to make models. A Natural Craft Creation Centre was also inaugurated during the opening ceremony to develop more original plant handiworks.

A series of activities such as tea-tastings and a workshop on making plant handicrafts are also included in the opening day.

During the workshop held in the afternoon, officials of Shou’an county introduced the history and development of plant-weaving in the region. Hu Shixun, master of Sichuan style miniascape detailed the economic values and cultural connotations of the art form. Masters of arts, floriculture lovers, and designers from across the country discussed about the market development, transformation and future of plant-weaving art.

This festival will lasts till the end of October.
