Chengdu locals can get close up and personal with Neolithic Chinese culture at a three-month painted pottery exhibition at Jinsha Site Museum.

The exhibition opened on April 26 and features 115 pottery works dating back to Neolithic times. Several museums around China contributed to the collection, including Qinghai Province Museum, Institute of Archaeology CASS (Chinese Academy of Social Science) and Mao County Museum of Qiang Ethnic Group.

The majority of exhibiting items come from Yellow River basin, an area with a rich history of the 7,000 year-old form of pottery. Painted pottery showcases the varying styles of the times and regions through decorative patterns and shapes.

During the exhibition, archaeologists will be invited to give lectures on the history of painted pottery and methods of ceramic making.
