The new state-of-the-art Chengdu Museum, which will be the largest at city level in Southwest China, is projected to complete construction in June this year and open to the public by the end of 2016.

The museum will cover an area of 8,740 square meters, contain five levels above ground, housing different exhibition halls and four underground serving as cultural relic storage and lecture halls.

Chengdu’s government started to develop the museum in 2010 and has invested 90 million yuan ($13.82 million) in its construction.

The museum will preserve more than 200,000 cultural relics, which are expected to show the urban development of Chengdu throughout its history and showcase the area’s traditional folk customs.
