Chengdu to build a sponge city

Chengdu plans to develop into a "sponge city" to prevent waterlogging, according to local planning bureau's 2015 work plan.

The "sponge city" program is aimed to improve the city's groundwater system so that it can better drain water and retain it.

To achieve the goal, Chengdu plans to upgrade the rain and sewage diversion pipe network as well as boosting the development of green and sustainable construction with green roof and rain gardens, xinhuanet.com reported.
