Oscar winning actor Sean Penn and his wife actress Robin Wright Penn have withdrawn their divorce petition filed in December, a court document posted on celebrity Web site TMZ.com showed on Wednesday.

The request to dismiss the divorce, filed one day earlier in Superior Court of California in Marin County north of San Francisco, shows the withdrawal was made "without prejudice."

A spokeswoman for Penn declined to comment, and no further details were available.

Sean Penn, 47, and Robin Wright Penn, 42, were married for 11 years before they first filed for divorce. They have two children.

He has enjoyed a long acting career in movies and won the best actor Oscar for his leading role in 2003's "Mystic River." He also is a director whose most recent film, "Into the Wild," earned solid reviews last year.

She rose to prominence in the 1980s, and has starred in recent movies such as "Beowulf" and "What Just Happened?" which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
