China's top prosecuting authority said on Monday that it had increased the amount of compensation which can be claimed if an individual's personal freedoms have been infringed upon.

Under the new standard from the Supreme People's Procuratorate, residents will be given 242.3 yuan ($37.14) per day in compensation if prosecuting authorities are found to have curbed their personal freedoms, such as through a wrongful prosecution.

This figure is 22.58 yuan higher than it was last year and has been effective since Monday, the top procuratorate said.

The change affects those who have been wrongfully detained, prosecuted or convicted and was made based on changing incomes, it added.
