China's aid materials depart for quake-hit Chile

BEIJING - Relief materials worth 2 million US dollars left China for quake-hit Chile Thursday, according to sources with the National Defense Ministry.

The materials, including 700 tents, 10,000 woollen blankets, 100 portable power generators and two water purification units, were collected by the Chinese military from the cities of Beijing, Nanjing, Shijiazhuang, Suzhou and Weihai.

The Chinese government sent 1 million US dollars in financial assistance to Chile Monday.

The death toll of the earthquake that shook the south of the country Saturday has risen to 802.
