VGC's contribution to China's automotive industry

Over the past 25 years, Volkswagen Group China (VGC) made an accumulative investment of 6.8 billion euros, which is 20 percent of all investment in China's automobile industry.

From the first model on the market in 1984, VGC has 44 models in China by the end of 2008. And of those current 44 models over half, 26 of them, are manufactured in China.

Three of its most significant brands - Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda - have set up production facilities in China.

VGC has trained a vast number of highly skilled automobile technical personnel. During the past 25 years, VGC has created 33,000 jobs directly and provided over 300,000 jobs indirectly with the establishment of more than 200 auto parts joint ventures in China.

VGC has already put 7.3 million vehicles on the road in China, accounting for 28 percent of the total.

VGC leads 14 joint ventures and solely owned enterprises in China, covering the manufacturing, sales and service of the cars, auto parts, engines and transmissions, as well as financial services.

In the course of negotiation on the project of the Shanghai Volkswagen, Volkswagen Group prompted the formation of the first Joint Venture Law of China.

In the course of technology transfer, Volkswagen Group China also helped establish a framework for the formation of China's initial patent laws.
