Preparation for 2022 Winter Olympic Games in full swing

The 24th Winter Olympic Games will be co-hosted by Beijing and Zhangjiakou in 2022.

The only new stadium for this Winter Olympic Games, the National Speed Skating Hall, will be built on the location of the former archery range and hockey field of 2008 Olympic Games. The global collection for the stadium’s design planning is completed and awaits official confirmation.

The newly-built speed skating hall will be the permanent training stadium for the ice sports athletes after the games.

The Water Cube and the National Indoor Stadium will be the venues for the curling and ice hockey competition after reconstruction. The opening and conclusion ceremonies of the Winter Olympics will be held at the Bird Nestle, as well as the Century Ceremony of Winter Olympics.

A project to build an ice stadium is planned to be launched by the Water Cube this year, and is expected to open two years later. The “Ice Cube” is designated for ice sports competitions but will also be open to public.

In addition, a Chinese-style Olympics village, which will incorporate traditional Chinese garden design concepts, will be built for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games to the south of the National Olympics Center. The village will be able to accommodate about 2,200 people.

Meanwhile, the first mass Winter Olympics knowledge popularization initiative, organized by the administration committee of Beijing Olympic Park, was officially launched on Oct 25 in Bird Nestle. This activity aims to popularize knowledge on the history and development of the Winter Olympics to the public.

This year, the activity was held in four lectures along streets around the Olympic Park, concluding in the Water Cube. It will continue to be held at the streets within the Olympics functional region. Some top experts and scholars in the sports scene and Winter Olympics-related fields will be invited for the activity’s lecturers. This activity will be held until 2022.

Park’s industrial carrying capacity keeps increasing

Beijing Olympic Park’s industrial carrying capacity has been strengthening, owing to the construction of existing stadiums and a new stadium for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

This year, a 246.8 meter tower erected on the capital’s axis, Beijing Olympic Tower, was officially named in Olympic Park on June 12. This tower will bear the symbol of the Olympic rings permanently.

On Sept 23, the foundation stone laying ceremony of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’s headquarter was held in the park’s central area. The headquarters will cover 250,000 square meters on the ground in the future.

The construction of Olympic Park’s business area is steadily progressing, aiming to integrate financial services, culture, and leisure and trade services within the complex, complementing developmental variety.

The business buildings located on the No 2 Land in the park, such as Tianyuan Xiangtai Tower, have begun operating. Most of the enterprises in the building are engaged in financial, cultural, sport and technology fields. A total of 14 enterprises have been registered so far.

Meanwhile, the construction of some major projects, including the National Center of Chinese Traditional Culture and the National Art Museum of China, are accelerating. These major projects will further strengthen the park’s functional position and help to cultivate new economic growth.

Guided by the 13th Five-Year Plan, Beijing Olympic Park will highlight its advantages on Olympic brands and resources in the preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. It will ensure the completion of the park’s full capabilities by prioritizing its functions in international communication, world cultural exchanges and national, according to the park’s administration committee.
