Anti-Japanese War documentary covers Battle of Xinkou

BEIJING - The sixth episode of an ongoing documentary series on the Anti-Japanese War on Saturday told the story of a month-long battle to defend the northern city of Taiyuan.

An episode of the series has been released each day since Monday on the website of China's State Archives Administration, a move to raise awareness of the war.

On Oct. 13, 1937, Chinese troops confronted the approaching Japanese army at Xinkou.

The battle lasted for more than a month. It was the largest and fiercest fight in north China during the early stage of the Anti-Japanese War.

At a cost of 100,000 casualties, the Chinese troops killed and wounded more than 20,000 enemy soldiers.

Senior Chinese military commanders Hao Mengling and Jiang Yuzhen died in this the Battle of Xinkou, which saw cooperation between the forces of the Communist Party of China and the Kuomintang.
