Foreign minister meets WHO and IOC chiefs
Foreign Minister Wang Yi met leaders of the World Health Organization and the International Olympic Committee on Sunday during his visit to Switzerland, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
China will continue to support and collaborate with the WHO to effectively tackle global health challenges and contribute to the development of global health, Wang told Margaret Chan, the WHO director-general in Geneva.
Chan thanked the Chinese government for its support in hosting the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, which was held in Shanghai in November, and said that the WHO hopes to strengthen health cooperation with China under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
When meeting Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Wang said China values cooperation with the IOC, and he believes that the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing will be success as a result of the Chinese people's efforts as well as the support by the IOC.
The winter Olympics in 2022 will be held in Beijing and Zhangjiakou, a city in Hebei province.
Bach said the IOC wishes to strengthen cooperation with China and is ready to lend full support to the country in hosting the 2022 winter Olympics.
