KUALA LUMPUR -- At least 14 people were injured Thursday morning in an explosion in front of an entertainment outlet in Kuala Lumpur, with two Chinese women among the victims.

The police received information of the blast near a pub at about 4:30 am (2030 GMT Wednesday), and the explosion destroyed at least four cars, according to the The Star, a local English- language newspaper.

An official of the Chinese embassy told Xinhua that the police said two female Chinese nationals were among the injured. They had been sent to two separate hospitals for treatment, he said, adding that the embassy had arranged staff to visit the victims and would continue to keep in touch with the police for further information.

It was believed that two explosive objects were thrown at the scene, one of which failed to explode and recovered by the police under a car.
