Xi'an
As one of the world's four great old capitals, Xi'an enjoys a reputation as the "natural museum of Chinese history". If foreigners go to Shanghai to experience modern China, they go to Xi'an to learn about China's past.
More than 200 foreign leaders have visited Xi'an since the founding of the new China, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, British Queen Elizabeth II, Japanese Emperor Akihito, former US presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, former French presidents Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy, Russian President Vladimir Putin, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien and South Korean President Park Geun-hye.
