No one injured after US commuter train derails

(Xinhua) Updated: 2014-02-08 15:40

CHICAGO - A six-car Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train derailed in northern Chicago suburb during rush hour on Friday evening, leaving commuters stranded. No injuries were reported.

Chicago Tribune said hundreds of passengers were on the train. CTA workers uncoupled two train cars that didn't derail and brought as many passengers as possible back to the Howard station.

Kenneth Obel, a passenger on the trains, tweeted, "Did not get off derailed CTA train until after 8 pm (0200 GMT Saturday), 2 hours after derailment occurred."

A photo from an NBC5 reporter showed the CTA train with one wheel of the train off the track. The CTA train line resumed operations shortly after 9 pm (0300 GMT Saturday).

This accident came in the wake of another derailment on January 7.
