PYONGYANG - The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) urged the Republic of Korea (ROK) to drop the strategy of "unification through absorption," the official KCNA news agency reported on Monday.
A spokesman of the Disarmament and Peace Institute of the DPRK Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the strategy was "the main reason why the north-south relations have been systematically deteriorated in a little more than three years."
The ROK's authorities considered the DPRK an "enemy" to be wiped out, rather than a part of the driving force for reunification with whom they should pool efforts, said the statement.
It called on the international community to urge ROK to "wake up from the dangerous dream of unification through absorption" and strive for the improvement of the north-south relations.
A spokesman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea also urged ROK Saturday to improve inter-Korean ties.
