Western countries should not take advantage of the popular movement in Libya to turn the country into a military base, said Mehmanparast, according to Press TV.

He said that Iran condemns any kind of violence against people by Libyan government, but "such issues should not provide an excuse for military interference by other countries," according to Press TV.

The West "should not try to turn countries into military bases, " he was quoted as saying.

The spokesman also offered Iran's support for the Libyans, saying "We have announced that we are ready to offer any kind of assistance and we can also receive the injured."

Earlier reports said that the United States and some Western countries were considering all options, including the military campaign against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

On Monday, Libyan government accused that Western powers and the terrorist group of al-Qaida are the behind-the-curtain masterminds of the ongoing unrest in the North African country.
