About 50 rebels attacked the Indian peacekeepers, who are serving in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in DRC (MONUSCO), in a base in Kirumba in North Kivu province around 2 a.m. local time on Wednesday, reports said. Kirumba is some 150 kilometers north of Goma, the capital of the province.

A statement, issued to the press here, said, "The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the attacks on MONUSCO peacekeepers in Kirumba on August 18, which resulted in the deaths of three Indian soldiers and left at least six more wounded."
