Taliban executes man in public in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani Taliban militants executed an alleged murderer in public in North Waziristan tribal area, the northwest part of the country, local media reported Thursday.

Waheed Khan, 28 and resident of North Waziristan, was shot dead on Wednesday in front of some 200 people in Tehsil Dattakhel for allegedly killing a tribesman on June 12, according to local newspaper Daily Times.

Taliban fired three bullets in his chest, eyewitnesses said, adding the people on the spot were stunned by this kind of justice.

Taliban in Pakistan tribal areas and Afghanistan implement a strict form of Islamic law. They often carry out public executions to demonstrate their power and intimidate local residents.
