"Eventually I want to open a parlor because I think this is an untapped market."
As mehndi starts to grow roots in China, Azam looks forward to expanding her business.
"For me having a career that's your hobby is the best thing. Henna is one thing I could give my all to, and when I do it I feel as though I will never get tired or bored."
Azam, whose business card bills her as a "master of mehndi", acknowledges that this description goes a little too far.
"I'm so far away from that, but it's something I'm aiming for."
