SYDNEY - More than 20 warships from 17 nations have arrived in Sydney Harbor to take part in the historic International Fleet Review.
The fleet, which includes ships from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, India, Singapore and China, made their arrival Friday morning.
The International Fleet Review, which runs till October 11, is a week-long celebration commemorating the centenary of the first entry of the Royal Australian Navy Fleet into Sydney.
Dozens of sailors in ceremonial uniforms lined the decks of HMAS Sydney as the guided missile frigate sailed into the harbor.
Large crowds have gathered around shores to watch the warships sailing into the harbor.
New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell was among those on board the HMAS Sydney on Friday morning, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
"I'm sure we'll see more tomorrow, but this is a great event for Sydney, a great focus worldwide on Sydney and what a way to start it off," he said.
On Thursday, a flotilla of 16 tall ships, led by the STS Young Endeavour and HM Bark Endeavour, arrived in the harbor.
