0Chongming Island is part of the municipality of Shanghai. It is located in the Yangtze River estuary, facing the East China Sea.
Sediment deposit washed down from the Yangtze River to create the island. As the flow rate of the Yangtze at the estuary is slow it continues to wash in from upstream and be deposited there, and the island continues to grow.
Lester Xu found his way to the growing island of Chongming, a quiet spot hidden in the modern city.
