Online sales of an Internet company reached 6.7 billion yuan in one hour on Monday morning, an annual carnival for online shoppers. The online shopping spree on Nov 11, initiated in the name of "Singles Day," a celebration of those not paired off, has become the country's most popular annual commercial holiday and created an e-commerce miracle, Xinhua News agency reported.

Buses in Nanjing have been requisitioned as school buses because the district could not afford special school buses, China National Radio reported. A total of 234 buses transport students to 31 schools in Jiangning district, but more than 300 are needed, education authorities say. The price and maintenance costs of special school buses are too expensive, authorities say.

As of Saturday, more than 1.77 million people have registered with Beijing's vehicle license plate lottery system to get a purchase permit. The total, more than 80,000 above October's, is the highest number in 32 months. The increase in applicants is due to the city's new license plate lottery policy, which will slash its new car quota by 37.5 percent beginning next year.
