Zheng Shuyin of China matched her boyfriend Zhao Shuai's Olympic feat on Saturday when she won the gold medal in the women's +67kg taekwondo competition at the Rio Games.
Zheng, inspired by Zhao's victory in the men's 58kg category on Thursday, fully executed her advantage in height to defeat Maria del Rosario Espinoza Espinoza of Mexico 5-1 in the final. It was China's second gold medal of the Games in taekwondo.
"I am taller so I tried to keep my distance. If she is close she is faster than me, so I kept her away," said Zheng, who is 14cm taller than her Mexican opponent.
"I knew it is going to be difficult as Zheng is really tall. I didn't get what I wanted but did my best," said Espinoza Espinoza.
