Hernandez joins Madrid, Valencia gets Negredo

Madrid was routed 4-2 at Real Sociedad after leading by two goals on Sunday, increasing the pressure for the club to bulk up its squad after the exit of Angel Di Maria, Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Morata in the offseason.

Hernandez shied away from comparisons with countryman Hugo Sanchez, a Madrid star from the 1980s.

"Hugo had an extraordinary career here, but I have come to have mine," he said.

Valencia was the most active team on the final day, also taking midfielder Filipe Augusto on loan from Rio Ave.

New owner Peter Lim got the first big piece of his rebuilding project in the 29-year-old Negredo, who helped City win the Premier League last season.

Negredo broke his right foot in a preseason game in July and was then expected to be out several months.

Valencia also rescinded Portugal striker Helder Postiga's contract, freeing him to join Deportivo La Coruna for one season.

Espanyol signed midfielder Jose Canas to a three-year deal after the former Real Betis midfielder played rescinded his contract with Swansea. Canas arrived to replace David Lopez, who Espanyol sold to Napoli.

Rayo Vallecano took Argentine defender Emiliano Insua on loan from Atletico, midfielder Mohammed Fatau on loan from Granada with an option to buy, and signed veteran goalkeeper Antonio "Tono" Martinez.

Granada acquired Portugal under-21 left back Luis Martins for the next four years from Gil Vicente.
