Sources from Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) told Xinhua that the organizers of the Asian Games refused to accredit Abbas as the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) submitted accreditation request for Abbas after the accreditation process had closed.

"Since our accreditation center has closed to accept new accreditation of athletes, we are sorry to inform you that accreditation in hockey cannot be accepted," said an e-mail from the accreditation center of the 16th Asian Games.

Pakistani hockey team depends heavily on its penalty corner section and Abbas is the key figure in this trick. Abbas, 33, has scored 306 goals in international competitions, mostly with penalty corner flicks.
