Myanmar volleyball team to compete in Asian Games

YANGON - Myanmar volleyball players will compete in the 16th Asian Games to be held in China's southern city of Guangzhou next month, the local Biweekly Eleven News reported on Thursday.

The event, scheduled from Nov 12 to 27, will be joined by athletes from 18 countries.

The eight experienced old players and six new players have been selected and trained systematically by a Chinese coach since January this year, it said.

Myanmar volleyball team will leave for Guangzhou on Nov 10 to take part in the event.

In 2009, Myanmar stood third in Laos SEA Games.

Ten Myanmar sports teams with 95 players will compete in the upcoming 16th Asian Games.

Myanmar  will take part in 10 sports events - swimming, archery, track and field, billiards and snooker, dragon boat, sepak takraw, shooting, volleyball, weight lifting and Wushu.

The Asian Games is held every four years since 1951.
