AirAsia opens flights from Shanghai Pudong to Kuala Lumpur
On Feb 20, 2013, AirAsia's A330 airbus took 377 passengers from Kuala Lumpur to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, marking the establishment of Asia's largest low-cost airline in Shanghai.
Recognized as the "world's best low-cost airline" for several years in a row, AirAsia decided to enter the Shanghai market and introduce a route from Kuala Lumpur to Shanghai to demonstrate its attention to the Shanghai aviation market.
The line's opening enriches the route network from Pudong Airport to Southeast Asia, diversifies passenger travel options in the Shanghai Yangtze River Delta, and promotes economic and cultural exchanges between both sides. In the beginning, it will run six nonstop flights weekly. Starting May 2013, it will expand to one flight per day.
After the opening of the AirAsia flights, flights from Pudong Airport to Kuala Lumpur have increased from 28 to 34 a week, making it more convenient for passengers to travel.
