The zone has been promoting clean energy since it opened and, in 2007, radically replaced coal with new energy, the first site of its kind in Beijing to do so. It now has an electric power capacity of 30-million kW/yr, and has finished work on a 33-MW roof solar photovoltaic project to help cut 20,000 tons of carbon emissions.
