Former US President Richard Nixon visited the Terracotta Warriors on his fourth visit to China as a private citizen on September 7, 1985. A trip to the attraction, as well as the Shaanxi History Museum, was arranged upon his request.

The Terracotta Warriors is the most-visited attraction in Xi'an and one of the top historical attractions in China. Excavation has been continuous for over 20 years at the site, which consists of three pits and was listed as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO in 1987. In 1979, the Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang opened.
