My favorite restaurant in Chengdu

I was born in Chengdu. Chengdu watched I grew up from a toddler to a university student, and I witnessed Chengdu developed from a medium city to one of the biggest and most modernized cities in China. As a Chengdu local, what I am most proud of is the Chengdu cuisine. There are numerous restaurants located at corners and alleys but still can be found by foodies. Waiting for long time for gourmet cuisine becomes a part of life, even for students.

When I was in high school, there was a restaurant famous for noodles nearby my school, which became our canteen for dinner. During the busy three years, my classmates and I went to the restaurant every night. I tried every course over and over again, never getting sated. After burdensome study of the day, we always enjoyed the way ordering noodles, when the landlady shouted loudly everything we want altogether in the dialect to the cook, and the delicious noodles. We always admired the landlady’s surprising memory because she never used anything but her mind and never made a mistake. The noodles not only provided us with the energy to continue to study at school and at home till midnight, also with happy time and enjoyable experience during the exhausting high school life.

After gaokao, although my classmates and I went to universities in different cities, the noodled have imprinted in our memories and keep us connected. Every time we came back to Chengdu, we always went to the restaurant together, to eat the noodles, to enjoy the special ordering way and to memorize our high school hours.

Unfortunately, Chengdu develops too fast to have its culture to keep the pace with it. The restaurant was demolished because of the construction of the metro. No one knows whether it will continue its business and where it is, but it is never closed in our memory. It always shares our memories with the city.
