Authorities in Nanjing plan to apply for its city walls (known officially as the Nanjing Circumvallation) to enter the Chinese World Heritage list in 2016.
To support the application, tourist providers at the city walls have gathered Spring Festival Chinese couplets from around the world.
The couplet collection activity was co-organized by the Nanjing administration of culture, radio, publication and press and the protection and management center of the city wall tourist site. It will end on Jan 11, 2016.
Nine of the best couplets will be selected by experts and votes from Nanjing residents. They will be displayed on the eight major gates of the circumvallation before the 2016 Spring Festival.
Here are some instructions for the contest:
Guidelines of Entry
1. Each entry should be themed on the features of the Nanjing Circumvallation and reflect elements of the 2016 Year of the Monkey.
2. Submissions should be no more than two for each participant and should include your real name and detailed contact information, including phone number, post code and address.
3. Participants guarantee that the works submitted to the contest were created independently by the participants themselves and that they do not violate the rights and interests of others.
4. The organizing committee has the right to conduct modifications to each submission with the exception of the participant requesting no modifications upon submission.
Prizes
First place: One winner will receive 3,000 yuan ($460.2) in cash (or other objects with the same value, to be decided at a later date) and a certificate of award. The winner will also receive a free ticket to attend any events (no later than Dec 31, 2016) organized by the protection and management center of Nanjing Circumvallation.
Second place: Three winners will receive 2,000 yuan in cash (or other objects with the same value, to be decided at a later date) and a certificate of award. They will also receive a free ticket to attend any events (no later than Dec 31, 2016) organized by the protection and management center of Nanjing Circumvallation.
Third place: Five winners will receive 1,000 yuan in cash (or other objects with the same value, to be decided at a later date) and a certificate of award. The winner will also receive a free ticket to attend any events (no later than Dec 31, 2016) organized by the protection and management center of Nanjing Circumvallation.
